There are some research opportunities available on campus and student research forums are held each year to give student researchers an opportunity to share their work with fellow students, faculty and members of the local scientific community. Held each year in February, the Medical Student Research Forum MSRF is a way to promote student research and to provide an opportunity for medical students to present and share their findings with the College community.
It features a full day of oral presentations and poster sessions in basic science and clinical science categories. An afternoon keynote address is given by a distinguished guest speaker. Past speakers have included Nobel laureates and other leading scientists. The MSRF began in based on the belief that a fundamental understanding of the relationship between medical research and the practice of medicine can enable physician-scientists to better serve patients and the community.
Several student projects presented at past forums have been candidates for drug patents, scientific articles, and the application of new technology and medical techniques. It offers students an opportunity to present their own research orally or by poster to a panel of judges and an audience of their peers and faculty members. The day features a keynote address by a prominent guest speaker, including Nobel laureates and other leading scientists, and time is set aside time for a student-moderated question and answer session with the guest lecturer.
The GSRF tradition was started in by students. Each year the GSRF welcomes back an alumnus or alumna to serve as master of ceremonies, and a faculty member is honored for outstanding contributions to the academic mission of the institution. Projects include recently developed health, environmental, and policy programs from public health disciplines, novel clinical applications in speech-language pathology and physical therapy, and other projects that contribute to scholarship at NYMC.
A networking opportunity among students and faculty celebrated NYMC's commitment to scientific discovery and appreciation to College and community collaborators.
